Sore throat symptom is very common and can affect any aspect of your mouth and throat. Symptoms include a sore throat causing you pain when you eat, swallow or speak. You might also experience redness at the back of your mouth, swollen glands, and a mild cough. Children may experience fever and tiredness with a sore throat.

What are the causes of a sore throat?
A sore throat can be caused by a number of different conditions. Viruses are a common cause of sore throat symptoms that can lead to conditions such as laryngitis, tonsillitis, or glandular fever. Sore throats can also be caused by bacteria, leading to bacterial tonsilitis. Smoking, overuse of your voice, and allergies can also cause sore throat symptoms.
When should I see my doctor?
If you have severe symptoms alongside your sore throat, you should see your doctor for review. These include symptoms such as fevers, vomiting, inability to drink enough to stay hydrated, or any other symptoms causing you particular concern.
If you have mild to moderate symptoms, alongside other viral symptoms such as runny or blocked nose, cough then you could review with your doctor if you are not improving after a week or if you develop any of the serious associated symptoms in the meantime.
